ECS-NJ

Episcopal Community Services of the Diocese of New Jersey (ECS-NJ) is pleased to announce ECS Sunday, a day dedicated to raising awareness of social justice issues and mobilizing faith communities to take action. Observed annually on the first Sunday in May, ECS Sunday will take place this year on May 4, 2025, with the theme: Building on a Firm Foundation. On this day, congregations across the diocese will reflect on their call to serve through donations, volunteering, and sharing their expertise in support of ECS-NJ’s mission.

“ECS Sunday is an opportunity for churches to engage deeply with the work of justice and mercy,” said Fr. Marshall Shelly, who provides spiritual resources for participating congregations and Vice President, ECS-NJ Advisory Committee. “We are called not only to pray but to act—standing in solidarity with our neighbors in need.”

Churches that participate in ECS Sunday will receive the "Champion for Justice" seal, recognizing their commitment to social justice and service. Participating congregations will also be highlighted on the ECS-NJ website and on all media as Champions for Justice

Dr. Rosina Dixon, Advisory Chair for ECS-NJ, emphasized the importance of collective action. “By coming together as a faith community, we amplify our ability to make a meaningful impact. ECS Sunday is a chance to reaffirm our commitment to justice and extend our hands in service to others.”

Additionally, ECS-NJ’s 2024 Impact Report is now available on the website, highlighting the organization’s progress and continued efforts in addressing critical human needs across New Jersey.
