Crisis Assessment Response and Enhanced Services (CARES)

(888) 393-3007

CARES is a New Jersey statewide outreach program that provides in person services to individuals 21 and older with an intellectual/developmental disability.  CARES will consult with family and caregivers at the individuals' residence and / or day program to assist with mental health concerns, life stressors, and / or challenging behaviors. CARES takes a person centered, solution focused approach while helping individuals identify their strengths, increase coping skills, improve communication, and decrease maladaptive behaviors. Individuals have access to the CARES 24/7 hotline, should they need support from a clinician. Support, consultation, and trainings are also available for providers and caregivers.

CARES also provides crisis assessments to screening centers and ERs throughout the state of New Jersey to determine if a higher level of care is needed on the specialized I/DD inpatient unit at Trinitas Regional Medical Center.

Eligibility requirements: 21 years of age or older, reside in the state of New Jersey, and have an Intellectual/Developmental Disability
