Gems to Jewels Inc. is a Newark-based nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering at-risk and justice-involved youth through mentorship, literacy, workforce development, and wellness programming.

Our mission is to create safe, supportive spaces where youth can heal, grow, and build the skills needed to succeed in life. Through our signature programs, we focus on personal and professional development, emotional wellness, financial literacy, and career readiness.

We provide:

  • Mentorship through exposure, experiences, and consistent guidance
  • Literacy programs and book clubs in schools and detention centers
  • Workforce pathways through our “Keys to Stability” initiative
  • Life skills training including resume writing, interview prep, and communication
  • Wellness support focused on mental health, self-awareness, and healing

We serve youth ages 8–22, with a strong focus on those impacted by the justice system or at risk of detainment. Our programs are designed to reduce recidivism, increase confidence, and create real opportunities for long-term success.

Gems to Jewels partners with schools, detention centers, and community organizations to ensure youth are supported both during and after critical life transitions.

Eligibility Participants must be youth or young adults ages 8–22 who are at risk of involvement in the justice system or currently justice-involved. Referrals are accepted from schools, detention centers, probation, families, and community partners. Participants must be willing to engage in mentorship, literacy, and personal development programming.
