Matawan Aberdeen Public Library Social Work Services

At Matawan Aberdeen Public Library, our Social Worker provides a welcoming, confidential, and strength-based environment to help connect patrons with the resources, advocacy, and support they need in their daily lives. Support will be offered in multiple ways, including one-on-one assistance and programs designed to benefit the broader community. The Social Worker will also collaborate with community members and officials to identify needs and guide the development of relevant services.

The Social Worker will be available through weekly drop-in hours and scheduled appointment-based sessions. For patrons who are unable to visit the library during these times, virtual or phone appointments can also be arranged.

What we provide:

  • Collaborative development of a personalized care plan that focuses on an individual’s specific needs and circumstances, such as support with food insecurity, housing, mental/physical health, substance use, and more
  • Referrals to local community-based organizations that closely identify with the need
  • Connections with local providers to determine programs and services that will meet the needs of the community
  • Support with paperwork/applications related to healthcare coverage, tax information, SNAP Benefits, and more
  • Educational workshops and support group

Please note:

Library social work services, while increasingly common, DO NOT offer direct therapy, medical or mental health treatment, or guaranteed shelter or housing. Our services primarily focus on connecting individuals with existing resources, providing information, and facilitating access to community services.
