The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources (CAFS)

The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources, a division of Children’s Aid and Family Services, is your resource for information, support, and solutions about addiction and prevention.  The Center is supported by grants, contracts and generous contributions from public and private donors.  As a result, many of our services are offered to the public at no cost.

At The Center, we think that drug and alcohol use should be talked about in a non-judgmental and educationally sound way so that all who seek guidance can be empowered to make informed decisions.

We’re here to help you.

How We Help
We offer programming and support across the lifespan in several areas that encourage people on their path to recovery, give youth the skills they need for smart and healthy decisions, give parents the support that they need, support older adults to encourage wellness, and arm communities with the tools they need to reduce substance misuse.

NJ4S Bergen Hub
New Jersey Statewide Student Support Services (NJ4S) in Bergen County is a coalition of community providers funded by the Department of Children and Families, providing a variety of wellness services to help students, families, and schools in their communities.

Schools
Our programs provide young people with the tools they need to solve problems and cope with life's challenges, as well as help strengthen family relationships.

  • Classroom programs for youth are interactive lessons and activities that create positive learning experiences, giving youth the tools they need to make responsible, healthy decisions.
  • Our programs for professionals are interactive presentations around topics such as what school professionals need to know about substance misuse and work - life balance.

Parents and Family
Sometimes families need extra help. We are here to help family members grow existing strengths and nurture their relationships. We offer:  (1)Tools for caregivers that help increase confidence, enhance communication with their children, and connect them with other families and caregivers. (2) Opportunities for families to spend time together in fun and creative activities can improve the quality of their relationships. (3) Guidance, support, and connections to other services for families who are concerned about a loved one's substance use and are unsure of what to do

College Students
The Bergen County Higher Education Addiction Prevention Consortium (BCHEAP) brings together local colleges to improve student mental wellness and reduce substance misuse. The consortium coordinates prevention programs, shares resources across campuses, engages students and staff, and uses data-driven strategies to address emerging substance use and mental health trends among college students. Participating institutions include Bergen Community College, Eastwick College, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Felician University, and Ramapo College.

Recovery Support Services
Recovery Support Services provides support on the journey of recovery, including peer-to-peer recovery services, case management, and warm hand offs to community resources all along side a Recovery Specialist. Our goal is to help people to improve their health and wellness, live self-directed lives, and strive to reach their full potential.

Community Education and Advocacy
The Center for Alcohol and Drug Resources leads five dynamic coalitions across Bergen County, each focused on unique communities and populations. These coalitions work together to prevent substance misuse, promote wellness, and create safer environments through education, advocacy, and community-driven strategies. From youth-focused initiatives to county-wide prevention efforts, our coalitions unite local voices to make a lasting impact.

Older Adults
We offer an array of programs to help adults of all ages navigate life's challenges and promote healthy lifestyles. We provide programs for older adults that create opportunities to keep socially connected while promoting wellness and celebrating healthy aging.
